OPP Issue Warning About Jumping Into Waterways

Hello time traveller!!

The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

OPP in Tecumseh and Lakeshore say that they have recently dealt with a rash of youth jumping into canals and rivers from railway bridges, pedestrian crossings and other structures over area waterways.

They are sending out a reminder to local youth that as the hot humid weather continues, to rethink dangerous behaviour like this as these waterways may contain hazards both passing on the water below the structures and hidden beneath its surface.

They say that many local waters are of varying depths and the debris and unknown consistency of each could prove dangerous to those plummeting in from high above the surface.

Although this may seem like simple summer fun, the consequences could be devastating.

The OPP urge parents to also educate their children regarding staying safe.
