A local teacher has received national recognition.

Amy Soucie, a Learning Support Teacher at General Amherst High School, has received a Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Soucie was nominated by her colleague, Child & Youth Worker Joanne Capel-Cure and has been recognized with a Certificate of Achievement along with 25 other educators from across Canada.

Passionate about special education, Soucie is known as a strong advocate for students with disabilities and works hard to ensure they are fully integrated into school life and have every chance to succeed. She boasts and “open door” policy and welcomes any student into her class at any time to receive extra support.

Soucie received a certificate and a letter of congratulations from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and General Amherst received a certificate recognizing its support of her achievement.
