Several bike lane projects received funding today all part of the province’s municipal cycling infrastructure program.

The municipalities of Windsor, Tecumseh, LaSalle, Kingsville, and Chatham-Kent will be receiving $325,000 each.

The Town of Tecumseh will receive $325,000 to build a new 3.5 kilometre off-road cycling and walking path that will connect to existing trail systems, including the Herb Grey Parkway Trail, and result in every municipality in the Windsor Essex Region being connected by a cycling facility. It will also form one of the last missing sections of the Trans Canada Trail in the Region.

The City of Windsor will receive $325,000 to create 1.6 kilometres of cycling facilities on Cabana Road, including a combination of painted bicycle lanes, signed bike routes on shared roadways and raised cycle tracks. This project will fill a gap in the Windsor Loop, a 42.5 kilometre circular loop intended to connect city neighborhoods and provide access to the Trans Canada Trail.

The Town of LaSalle will receive $325,000 to build a new 800 metre cycling and walking path that offers an off-road alternative to a narrow bridge on busy Todd Lane. It will connect to existing off-road trails on either side of Malden Road.

The Town of Kingsville will receive $325,000 to create 4.1 kilometres of cycling routes that include paved shoulders, an off-road path for cycling and walking and signed bike routes on shared roadways. The new facilities will provide a safe and comfortable cycling opportunity along the Town’s waterfront, linking residential areas to waterfront parks and other cycling routes.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will receive $325,000 to install a new 4.35 kilometre painted bike lane that will connect to existing multi-use trails and form part of the Trans Canada Trail. It will be the first step in a larger project to develop the “Round the River Route”, a 21.5 kilometre loop west of the city of Chatham.
