Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will open the doors to the first North-American Residential Family/Friend Program this Sunday April 3rd, offering support to those affected by someone’s problem gambling, gaming and/or internet dependency.

The six-day program is being offered to those sixteen years or older and will focus on self-improvement, boundary setting and managing the impacts of addictions. Program activities include daily meditation, cinema therapy, fitness activities as well as group and individual counselling.

“Like any addiction, Gambling, Gaming, and Internet Dependency affect more than just the individual who chooses to continue their respective behaviour. This program addition will lead to the creation of informed, stable, and supportive friends and family members,” explained Program Coordinator, Shawn Rumble.

The April program will be the first of three offered this year, the other two beginning in July and November. It will welcome both women and men, providing clients with their own private room and washrooms while residing on the HDGH Campus, in the peaceful Emara building.

“Not only will participants find the program very holistic, it will provide an important educational foundation to use in their everyday lives. Participants will complete the six days with additional knowledge and coping mechanisms and leave feeling rejuvenated and restored,” added Bill Marra, Vice President External Affairs, Innovation & Philanthropy.

To self-refer or questions about the program, individuals are encouraged to call HDGH Problem Gambling Services at (519) 254-2112.
