Catholic School Board Releases Recommendations For School Closures In West Windsor, Amherstburg And Leamington

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has released their final recommendations for school closures in West Windsor, Leamington and Amherstburg.

West Windsor:

  • That effective September 2016, St. James Catholic Elementary School shall become a JK to 6 school with consolidation of the JK to 6 student population within the current St. James and St. John Catholic Elementary School boundaries being accommodated at the St. James site.
  • That effective September 2016, a middle school be established to accommodate the grades 7 and 8 student population within the current St. James and St. John boundaries, and the middle school to be initially located in the short term at the St. John site and, ultimately relocated to the Assumption College Catholic High School/Catholic Education Centre (CEC) site upon completion of an addition and renovations.
  • That effective upon the relocation of the middle school from the St. John site, St. John Catholic Elementary School be closed and deemed surplus to the Board’s future needs.

The public will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the final staff report through public delegations to the Board of Trustees. The Delegation Meeting for the West Windsor Area is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st, 2016 at Assumption College Catholic High School at 7pm.

Amherstburg:

  • That effective September 2016, the St. Bernard Catholic Elementary School Community be consolidated with the Stella Maris Catholic School Community at the Stella Maris site, with students to be accommodated in the short term through the use of portables, as may be required.
  • That effective June 2016, St. Bernard Catholic Elementary School be closed and deemed surplus to the Board’s future needs.

The public will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the final staff report through public delegations to the Board of Trustees. The Delegation Meeting for the Amherstburg Area is scheduled for Monday, February 29th, 2016 at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School at 7pm.

Leamington:

  • That effective September 2016, St. Louis Catholic Elementary School shall become a JK to 6 school, continuing to offer dual track French Immersion, with consolidation of the JK to 6 student population within the current Queen of Peace and St. Louis Catholic Elementary School boundaries being accommodated at the St. Louis site, with students to be accommodated in the short term through the use of portables, as may be required.
  • That effective September 2016, a middle school be established to accommodate the grades 7 and 8 student population within the current Queen of Peace and St. Louis boundaries, said middle school to be initially located in the short term at the Queen of Peace site and ultimately relocated to the Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School site, upon completion of an addition and renovations, as may be required, at Cardinal Carter.
  • That effective upon the relocation of the middle school from the Queen of Peace site, Queen of Peace Catholic Elementary School be closed and deemed surplus to the Board’s future needs.

The public will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the final staff report through public delegations to the Board of Trustees. The Delegation Meeting for the Leamington Area is scheduled for Thursday, February 25th, 2016 at Cardinal Carter Catholic High School at 7pm.
