A 17-year-old female from Amherstburg who was driving a van that crashed on River Canard Bridge on Sunday has been charged with careless driving.
Police were dispatched to the single vehicle accident at the intersection at South Riverview Drive and County Road 8, Sunday evening, and found the 2007 Pontiac van wedged between the railing and bridge column in the walkway with the back end of the vehicle suspended in the air.
Investigators have determined that speed was a factor in the crash. The driver lost control and failed to maintain vehicle on travelled portion of roadway while negotiating the bend in the road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the west side of the River Canard Bridge landing between the bridge column and guard rail.
Police say it’s very fortunate that no one was seriously injured.
