A Amherstburg man has been charged after an incident at the airport Friday evening.

Police say around 8:40pm Friday, they were called to Windsor Airport for an unauthorized vehicle driving on the tarmac. Police received information that airport security had the vehicle stopped and that the driver was bleeding from the nose.

When police arrived they found a black GMC Yukon parked on the tarmac just east of the traffic control tower. EMS were also on scene and were assessing the driver of the vehicle.

Police found extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle, and “chunks” of mud and grass at the front of the vehicle and along the running boards.

They also found approximately 100 feet of fencing that was damaged in the area of County Rd 42 and the 9th Concession, and discovered pieces of the Yukon near the damaged fence.

Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle, and he was placed under arrest for impaired driving.

The driver was transported to hospital and was treated for a laceration to his nose. After being treated at hospital, he was transported to Windsor Police Headquarters.

The 70-year-old man was later released on a promise to appear. He is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.
