OPP stop a driver in this file photo

Police in Essex County nabbed four alleged drunk drivers over the weekend.

On Friday around 8pm, OPP in Lakeshore responded to a call from a motorist regarding an erratic driver on Highway 401 eastbound near French Line (Essex County Road 31) in Lakeshore.

Officers found the vehicle, a burgundy pickup truck and spoke to the lone male occupant and driver. OPP Constable Stephanie Moniz says the driver exhibited signs of impairment and was issued a roadside test which registered a “fail”.

Charles Bowering, 46, of Lakeshore was arrested and charged with exceeding 80mg blood alcohol content, driving a motor vehicle with open alcohol readily available, and failure to surrender an insurance card.

Then around 3:30am Saturday, OPP in Tecumseh stopped a vehicle for erratic driving on Banwell Road.

Officers spoke to the lone male occupant of the vehicle who Moniz said exhibited signs of impairment.

He was issued a roadside test which registered a “fail”.

Eivan Oraha, 33, of Windsor was charged with exceeding 80mg blood alcohol content.

A few hours later, at 5:50am, Tecumseh OPP received a call reporting an erratic driver on Riverside Drive East.

Officers responded and located the vehicle in question and spoke to the driver who was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Police say she exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.

Joanne Walthers, 53, of Windsor was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, as well as failure to comply with an undertaking from a previous criminal charge.

The next morning, Sunday around 7:20am, Lakeshore OPP received two separate calls from motorists with regards to an erratic driver on Highway 401 travelling westbound through Lakeshore.

Officers converged on the area and located a SUV on Highway 401, just west of Essex County Road 27, which Moniz says was weaving in and out of its lane.

Police spoke to the driver of the vehicle and issued a roadside test which registered a “fail”.

Matthew Croucher, 33, of Waterloo was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceeding 80mg blood alcohol content.

Moniz says the OPP are sincerely thanking the citizens of Essex County for their ongoing efforts to assist police agencies in stopping drunk drivers. Police rely on the public to alert officers of suspected impaired drivers now, during the holiday season, and throughout the year, she said.
