Walkerville’s Salute Espresso Bar Closing

Walkerville neighbourhood coffee shoppe Salute Espresso Bar is closing its doors at the end of the month.

Established in 2012, the cafe was one of the only local coffee shops in the city that both roasted and served on site.

Owner Dane Charles said the decision to close was difficult.

“For the sustainability of the brand, and staying true to our core principals, we need to make a shift,” he said. “There are no current plans for what the future of our dedicated coffee community will look like, but the mission and goal we set out with will continue to be pursued in some way.”

Aside from espresso creations, coffee and tea, Salute served homemade baked goods and a selection of lunch items, along with its in-house, take-home Cannonball Coffee selections and Cannonball Cold Brew coffee.

“From a retail perspective, both Cannonball Coffee and Cannonball Cold Brew will also be on hiatus while we re-organize to be ready for future opportunities,” said Charles. “We’ve been tremendously humbled from the first moment someone trusted us to a new coffee experience and continue to be each and every time you’ve made a conscious choice to allow us the same privilege again.”

Charles however expressed optimism for the future.

“While there are no immediate plans to relocate, we will be considering our options to re-emerge,” he said.

Salute is selling a number of machines and equipment on their Facebook page before the cafe closes sometime during the week of the 26th of October.

Until then, Charles says you’re invited to visit. “We would be immensely appreciative and overwhelmed if every single one of you, as part of the #salutefam, would come visit us before we go underground for a while.”

Salute Espresso Bar is located at 2090 Wyandotte Street East, at the corner of Wyandotte and Argyle.
