A young child was sent to a London hospital and a man is charged with attempted murder after a serious overnight fire in East Windsor.

Fire crews were called to a home located at 1680 Balfour just before midnight and found smoke and flames coming from all sides.

Upon arrival they discovered a mother and daughter suffering from burns to their bodies. The mother had serious burns to one of her hands. The daughter, aged 7, had serious burns to her face, torso, hands and feet. An 11 month old girl also in the residence was unharmed.

The 7-year-old victim was taken to Met hospital and then transferred via air ambulance to London. Her status is critical. The mother was treated for her injuries and will require further treatment.

Police arrested 43-year-old Kenneth Kormendy at the scene.

He appeared in court Sunday afternoon and was charged with three counts of attempt murder, arson/fire disregard for human life, and two counts of arson/fire causing bodily harm.

The investigation is ongoing and Police ask that anyone with information to call the Major Crimes unit at 519-255-6700 ext 4830.
