An area of downtown Windsor got a little brighter Thursday night.

Thanks to The Initiative: Glengarry to Marentette, volunteers went door to door in an area bordered by Glengarry Avenue, Riverside Drive East, Marentette Avenue, and Wyandotte Street East handing out free energy efficient light bulbs for porch lights.

Their goal was to add a light to every porch on every street until the entire neighbourhood has been lit up.

“The Glengarry-Marentette porch light project is a result of collaboration between The Initiative, our Revitalization Committee, Enwin Utilities and the Residents Committee. This follows on a lighting audit conducted in the neighbourhood which led to a successful lighting strategy supported by Casino Windsor, the City of Windsor and Windsor Police Services,” said Leonardo Gil, Coordinator of Resident Engagement and Resource Development, The Initiative: Glengarry to Marentette.
