A new and innovative on-line resource tool to help people understand the link between education and careers has just been launched by St. Clair College.

Known as Career Coach the comprehensive web-based resource provides four unique tools for users to explore the world of work.

The Careers tab helps the user understand a particular career area by providing information on wages, employment opportunities, and the associated education required. It also shows if the career is on the increase or decrease over the next four years.

The Programs tab will help people see the education opportunities as they align with various jobs in that area.

There is also a career assessment survey tool for those who might not be sure what they want to do and a resume builder tool.

“This unique resource lets the user explore a wide range of information about careers and their associated educational requirements without having to look at multiple web sites,” says Ann Hetherington, Director of Marketing & Student Recruitment. “The first question people ask us when they are exploring what program they are interested in is about the job market and career outcomes. This tool gives them a quick and easy way to get that information.”

Career Coach was developed by EMSI, a company that draws from a comprehensive set of Canadian data sources including the National Occupation Classification code (NOC) codes which are mapped by region and National Household Survey data, labour force surveys, Canadian Business Patterns and more. Proprietary projection methodology is also used along with industry best practices Canadian Occupational Projection Systems (COPS). This provides Career Coach users with a detailed, up-to-date look at their economy and employment trends in their region.

Career Coach features live job postings (updated hourly) through Indeed.ca.

Career Coach can be found on the St. Clair College home page and is accessible to anyone.
