A public meeting is being planned for September in the Town of Tecumseh to amend the Planning Act, for a 1.47 hectare parcel of land located at 5815 Outer Drive to permit the establishment of a Medical Marijuana Facility.

The current owner of the property, the Estate of Miksa Marton is proposing to rezone the property so they can sell it to the prospective medical marijuana facility operator, Active Global Organiks.

AGO plans to build the facility within the 11,474 square foot building. As part of the development proposal, the existing building will undergo extensive internal renovations. In addition, five new greenhouses, totaling approximately 14,000 square feet will be constructed with glass roofs. These greenhouses will be used for the last growth stage before harvesting of the product, for soil recycling and for housing equipment associated with reverse osmosis and reservoir. Supplemental lighting will be used during the night and in the winter months. Two additional future greenhouses may be constructed in addition to the five currently being proposed.

The proposed facility will produce approximately 50,000 grams of medical marijuana per month. No retail or commercial activity related to this use will be conducted at this location. All prescriptions will be shipped to the patients by courier service and no public access will be available to the building.

Security measures at the site will include lighting, a fence will be built around the entire perimeter of the proposed facility, and the requirement that all management of the proposed facility be fingerprinted and photographed and that the information be sent to the RCMP to conduct extensive
background checks in order to pass Health Canada’s Security Clearance.

Up to 25 employees are anticipated to be hired.

The public meeting takes place on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015 at 6:30pm.
