Windsor Police are investigating a serious accident that took place overnight at Wyandotte and Drouillard.

Emergency crews were called around 3am and found a purple minivan had struck one of several steel columns holding up the rail bridge that runs across Wyandotte and Drouillard.

Firefighters used the jaws of life and heavy extraction equipment to remove a single occupant from the vehicle.

They were taken to hospital. Injuries are unknown at this time.

The road was reopened around 11am.
