The Windsor Residence for Young Men is looking for help from the city’s landlords.

The Residence is a transitional home which supports homeless young men between the ages of 16 and 24. Their main priority is to have the youth return to their family home, but they say that is not always an option for them.

Their next option is to move into independent living. A youth typically stays with them for 90 days, where they are taught the life skills they need to be successful independently. They are also required to be in school, and/or looking for work or volunteer work.

Thanks to a recent grant from Windsor Essex Community Foundation, they have been able to hire a Youth Outreach Worker. This worker will help youth transition into independent living and also provide regular support to them after they have left the residence. This worker assists the youth with appointments, making sure their apartment is a safe and clean environment, encouraging positive behavior, encouraging regular school attendance, assisting with job searching, etc. This worker will be a continued support for the youth, but also for the landlord should any issues occur.

They are looking for landlords who are willing to partner with them to provide affordable and safe living accommodations for successful graduates of their program. If you are a landlord and wanting to assist or know of someone who might, contact the Windsor Residence at 226-221-8464, or [email protected].
