Windsor Police are investigating after someone took a demolition excavator from Windsor Raceway and drove it into trees and property at the Ojibway Nature Reserve.

Officers were called Sunday evening to Windsor Raceway after someone noticed one of the excavators had been taken from the site.

Police were told the excavator had been taken for a joy ride sometime in the previous 24-hour period. Officers learned the vehicle had been driven approximately 75 meters into the bush.

The excavator, identified as a John Deere 450 sustained damage to the engine vent area, front cage area and mirror. The damage is estimated to be approximately $5,000. The vehicle also damaged a porta-potty worth $2,000.
