Foodies and local food critics chose their favourite restaurants and food hospitality establishments as chefs battled it out during the 29th Annual Battle of the Hors D’Oeuvres, Thursday evening at Caesars Windsor.
After hours of food, drink and fun, critics Pina Ciotoli from WindsorEats, Ted Whipp from the Windsor Star, Essex Golf and Country Club’s Chef John Kukucka and Chef Daniele Paianca from Ambassador Golf and Country Club chose their favourites.
Parkside Grille’s Crab Croquettes won them the Critic’s Choice Award for Best Hospitality Hors d’Oeuvre, and The Willistead Restaurant was named to the Critic’s Choice Award for Best Restaurant Hors d’Oeuvre for their Captain Beefheart Mini Taco.
Participants got to vote too.
Smashed Apple Gourmet Catering and Food Truck’s Braised Pork Belly Blini landed Peoples Choice First Place. Sushi Guru’s Hawaiian Tuna Poke took home People’s Choice Second Place.
Guests were treated to wine and drink provided by Oxley Estate Winery, Brew microbrewery, Colchester Ridge Estate Winery, Muscedere Vineyards, Pelee Island Winery, Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery and the Walkerville Brewery.
And the evening was topped off with dessert provided by Sweet Revenge Bake Shop.
