The Town of Leamington is planning to recognize Councillor Atkin who passed away suddenly on April 21st, 2015.

Town administration is recommending that Robson Road Park, sometimes referred to as Marina Park, be renamed Rick Atkin Park in recognition of the significant contributions he made to the community since 2006.

Councillor Atkin’s first arrived in Leamington in 1985 as the Municipality’s head of recreation. He was instrumental in expanding the marina and oversaw major aspects of Leamington’s waterfront development including Robson Road Park and the waterfront promenade.

Town administration feels that renaming Robson Road Park would be the most appropriate as Councillor Atkin played a major role in the development of Leamington’s waterfront and this park is at the entrance to the Leamington marina and the waterfront promenade.

Town Council will be asked to proceed with the renaming of Robson Road Park at their meeting Monday. A by-law would then be created and a dedication ceremony planned for later this year.
