Nurses at both Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare were honoured Wednesday at a ceremony held to recognize nursing excellence and continuing education efforts.

Four nurses were winners of the Jeanne Mance Extraordinary Nursing Care Awards. This award goes to nurses who continually go above and beyond to provide compassionate and professional care to patients and exemplify teamwork, compassion, stewardship and respect.

Winners from Windsor Regional Hospital were Karl Sweet a Nurse Practitioner at the Ouellette campus and Ruth Wilson an RN in Paediatrics at the Met campus. From Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Kim Squire an RPN in Toldo Neurobehavioural Institute and Jenn Taylor am RN on 2 South.

Four nurses were also named as the recipients of the annual Lori Dupont Bursary, which assists staff with continuing education costs. Each is awarded up to $1,000. The Bursary recipients were Merilee Associati of HDGH, who will be completing her M.Sc.N graduate degree at the University of Windsor, Erikka Johnson of WRH, Met Campus, who will be completing her CNA certification exam, Tazdia Burnett of HDGH, who will be completing her Master’s in Nursing at the University of Windsor, and Kelly Roth of WRH, Ouellette Campus, who is an RPN studying to become an RN.

Windsor Regional Hospital also announced its two latest winners of the Daisy Award, which is presented to nurses who demonstrate excellence in the profession. The Daisy winners were Krista Wright, a CCU nurse from Ouellette Campus, and Meri-Kaye Hamilton, a Maternal Newborn nurse at the Met Campus.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare also announced the winner of its Founders award, which is presented to a nurse who has shown compassion and dedication to supporting nursing care in the community. The award went to Judy and Blair Simms, ET Nurses and RPN.
