The results are in for Windsor’s best bread.

More than a thousand people gathered at Lanspeary Park on May 1st for the first Bread and Roses Festival, where local bakeries gave away samples to the public in competition to see who makes the city’s best loaf, and those results are now in.

The judges, who included Nico from Walkerville Brewery and the bakers themselves from Windsor’s bakeries, chose as their favourites:

Best Bread: Blak’s Bakery
Best Artisinal Bread: Blak’s Bakery
Best Flatbread: Healthy Creations
Best Pastry: Vio’s Pasta, Pizza, and Pastries
Best Cookie: K & T Specialty Foods
Best Pie: Green Leaf Grocery

In addition, a special award for best cannoli went to Milena’s Bakery.

The public cast their own votes at the event, and the people’s choice awards were as follows:

Best Bread: Blak’s Bakery
Best Artisinal Bread: K & T Specialty Foods
Best Flatbread: Healthy Creations
Best Pastry: Deb’s Diner
Best Cookie: Deb’s Diner
Best Pie: K & T Specialty Foods
