Promoters of some of the biggest and best comic cons, fan expos and pop culture events across Canada and the USA are bringing their magic to Windsor this August for the first ever Windsor ComiCon.

“Without question, this will be the biggest comic con Windsor has seen and that will be evident in everything about if from the outset,” says organizer Steve Menzie. “From the venue size and location, Caesars Windsor; to the guests, Kevin Smith; and a top notch comic guest list as well as a great line-up of celebrity guests) to the programming.”

Menzie says the event is planned to be so big that he worries the event will outgrow the size and capacity of the venue if fans and the community embrace it.

“That said, Windsor ComiCon isn’t trying to compete with San Diego Comic Con but rather, to provide an exciting con that covers all the key genres: comics, sci fi, horror, gaming and anime / cosplay with an overlay of some of considerable local talent and to engage the existing communities as well as to welcome the curious and ‘wannabe nerds,'” he said. “This will be an accessible and inclusive event with something for everyone from the colourful musings of Kevin Smith to ‘Kids Free’ tickets and a wide array of programming.”

Menzie plans to bring the kind of quality to Windsor that is seen in other shows like the annual 4-day Fan Expo Canada that welcomes over 125,000 fans that Menzie had been previously been involved with.

He says Windsor ComiCon will feature great guests, celebrity, comic guests and voice actors, along with interesting and exciting programming for all ages and interests and for hard-core to mainstream curious. There will be autograph and photo op sessions with the celebrity guests, Q&A panels with the guests, programming for all the key genres, cosplay costume contests for adults and for kids, tons of shopping from a wide variety of vendors of comics, action figures, t-shirts and much, much more, says Menzie.

“We’re going to bring a great event to the city that everyone can enjoy and embrace that will fuel the passions of a lot of people. No one gets hurt and it will be an event that can enhance the cultural richness of the community while giving a nice economic shot in the arm to local hotels and businesses, not just in 2015, but, we hope for many years to come,” he said.

The Windsor ComiCon will take place on Saturday August 15th and Sunday August 16th at Caesars Windsor.
