Two houses were seriously damaged when one caught fire and flames spread next door, around dinner hour, Sunday.

Firefighters were called around 6:45pm to Spago Crescent in the Walker Gate Estates area and found that the first floor of a home was completely engulfed in flames, and fire was shooting out the side windows.

Within minutes the blaze had spread to the neighbouring house. Additional firefighters arrived and entered the neighbouring house to fight the fire in there.

Crews fought the fire for an hour before calling it out.

One person was taken to hospital with injuries. Four others made it out safely. A total of ten people have been displaced between the two homes.

Officials say the cause is undetermined, and that it originated in living/dining area.

Damage is set at $275,000 to the structure and $125,000 to the contents.
