The location of Mersea Road 2 as seen in Google Maps

Police say a 35-year-old Windsor man is lucky to be alive after driving his vehicle into a ditch filled with water, Monday evening.

Emergency crews were called to Mersea Road 2 in Leamington around 9:30pm and found that the vehicle was partially submerged on the driver’s side. The car was filling with water.

The first OPP officer who arrived on scene held the driver’s head above the water until he was joined by two more officers who were able to remove the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was transported to hospital by EMS and was treated for non life threatening injuries.

Police say the incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
