Heavy snow caused a car to become stuck on train tracks and subsequently hit by a locomotive early this morning in Emeryville.

At around 5:45am a 49 year old Lakeshore woman was driving her Ford Focus on Renaud Line. As she drove over the Via Rail tracks her vehicle became stuck in the snow.

Police say she tried to dislodge her vehicle from the snow bank when she saw and heard an east bound train approaching her location.

The woman was able to safely exit her car and call 911.

As OPP attempted to contact Via Rail dispatch, the train struck the car.

Police say the vehicle was split in half and demolished. There was minor damage to the train, and no one was injured on the train or vehicle.

The train was Toronto-bound, leaving Windsor with 43 passengers.
