A 33-year-old Chatham man is in custody after leading police on a chase early Sunday morning.

Police say it was about 1:30am when they received a call about a possible impaired driver travelling along Richmond Street near Keil Drive.

A short time later police were able to locate the vehicle and initially stopped it however, while officers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver fled.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle turned eastbound on Riverview and into an apartment complex. The driver fled on foot and officers gave chase eventually arresting him a short distance from the vehicle.

As a result, the accused was charged with multiple offences including flight from police and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

He has been held in custody pending a video remand.
