A 31-year-old woman was found dead after an early morning fire broke out at a house on Benjamin.

Police are ruling it a homicide.

Windsor Fire crews were called to a duplex at 1566 Benjamin around 3am.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly.

Police say firefighters discovered the woman’s body while at the scene.

Police would not elaborate if the investigation is criminal in nature or if the death was accidental.

Police Sergeant Matthew D’Asti said he was not aware of whether the woman was killed by the fire or in another way.

A neighbour told reporters that a young couple lived in the home and that screaming and fighting had been heard coming from the home recently. Windsor Police could not confirm that fact.

Down the street, a car was taped off with police caution tape, but police would not elaborate if that vehicle is involved in this investigation.

A postmortem examination will be conducted tomorrow morning at London Health Sciences in London.

Police say no other details are being released at this time while detectives investigate.
