A Windsor garbage truck driver was charged after allegedly hitting an elderly woman on Central Avenue earlier this week.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Central and Temple Drive just before noon on Monday and treated the woman for injuries.

Police say the garbage truck was on Temple Drive and was attempting to turn south onto Central Avenue. The woman was walking east across Central Avenue on Temple Drive. Police say the driver observed the elderly female and braked but it was too late and the vehicle struck the female.

The 79 year old female of Windsor was transported to hospital where she received treatment for a fractured pelvis.

The 60 year old garbage truck driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
