Police have arrested and charged a man with sexual assault.

On Monday, police say a 16-year-old girl received a call from an acquaintance of hers to meet him in the 1100 block of University Avenue East. The girl arrived and met him outside an apartment building where police say the man allegedly tried to remove the girl’s pants and touch her chest.

Police say the victim alleged the suspect managed to get his hand inside her shirt, touching her breast.

The victim was able to press re-dial on her phone which immediately dialed her friend. Her friend then called 911, and a police dispatcher called the victim’s cellphone, telling her to scream and to run to a nearby convenience store.

Police say the suspect allegedly would not let her in the store and would not let her stop walking.

Within minutes officers arrived at the intersection of Tuscarora Avenue and Marentette Avenue and saw the victim struggling with the suspect who appeared to have her in a headlock.

As police pulled up, the male looked at the police cruiser and began to run.

Officers gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspect.

Mohamed Efiye, 21, is charged with sexual assault and 3 counts of Breach of Probation
