Volunteers are invited to help plant native trees and shrubs at the Colchester Community Planting on Saturday, October 25th.

A partnership between the Town of Essex and the Essex Region Conservation Authority, this community planting is part of a 12 acre restoration project. “We are so excited to partner with ERCA and the community to plant these trees, wildflowers and shrubs,” said Essex Town Councillor and ERCA Board Member John Scott. “Once completed, this project will have added 7600 trees to Colchester, enhancing the aesthetics while increasing biodiversity and wildlife habitat.”

The Colchester Community Planting is located approximately 3.5 kilometres west of Colchester, south of County Road 50, adjacent to the intersection of Lakecrest Beach Road and Lakecrest Court. Volunteers are encouraged to wear boots and long pants and to dress for the weather as this event will take place rain or shine. Planting equipment and gloves will be provided to all volunteers and high school students can earn community service hours. A light barbecue will follow the planting.

The planing runs from 10am to 1pm.  Interested volunteers are asked to RSVP to: Caroline, Outreach Coordinator at [email protected] or 519-776-5209, ext. 245.
