The Super Santa Run is coming to downtown Amherstburg on November 15th with a goal to raise $8,000 for the Essex Region Conservation Foundation to protect and restore the region’s local natural resources.

“Each year the Super Santa Run grows larger and more festive,” said Susan Stockwell Andrews, Foundation President. Again this year’s event has partnered with the River Lights Winter Festival. “All Santa Run participants will help kick off the River Lights Winter Festival opening ceremonies and can stay to enjoy the fireworks display.”

The five kilometre fun run includes free Santa gear to wear for the run, including a Santa hat and beard. “This event is fun for the whole family. In addition to promoting healthy and active living, it is a great way to kick off the holiday season,” said Stockwell Andrews.

The cost is just $35 per adult and $20 for children under 16, and includes the Santa gear to keep as a souvenir. Discounts are also available for teams or for participants who gather pledges. Visit ourgreenlegacy.org for more information.

Runners will meet at Navy Yard Park in Amherstburg, on Dalhousie Street. Participants can register online and pick up their suit and race kit on event day starting at 1:00pm in the General Amherst High School gymnasium.

The Essex Region Conservation Foundation is also looking for some of Santa’s helpers to volunteer at the event. Volunteers will be positioned at various locations around the Amherstburg race route. High school students will be eligible for volunteer hours. “This will be a great event to be involved in and will put you in the festive spirit,” said Stockwell Andrews.

Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Susanne Tomkins at [email protected] or 519-776-5209 x366.
