Major Detour Again This Weekend On Huron Church

Hello time traveller!!

The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

Huron Church Road northbound will be closed from College Avenue to Union Street this weekend for track repairs and road work.

The closure starts at 9pm Friday and goes through Sunday afternoon.

Detour signage will be in place for traffic approaching the Ambassador Bridge, rerouting drivers off of Huron Church onto College. Traffic will flow from College to Crawford, Crawford to Wyandotte and Wyandotte to Patricia.

The city warns that area drivers should expect an increase in truck and commuter traffic during the closure.

The crossing, which is Canada’s largest at-grade rail crossing, has a broken rail. Over the past two years the city along with the Essex Terminal Railway have made temporary repairs with hopes to extend the life of the rails.

Last weekend the southbound lanes were closed while work was carried out on the rails there.  That work ended early and the road was opened by Saturday afternoon.
