As the seasons change and leaves begin to fall, the City of Windsor’s fall yard waste collections are about to swing into high gear.
The city has some basic leaf collection requirements and they only pick up leaves in paper yard waste bags, cardboard boxes garbage cans or a Herby Curby.
Leaves and yard waste will not be collected in plastic bags.
Yard waste should be placed at the curb by 6am on your scheduled day.
The city also suggests that you put aside several bags of leaves for next spring and summer. Leaves are a great source of carbon for your backyard composter, and carbon can be hard to find in the spring.
To reduce the amount of leaves you rake up, they suggest that you run over fallen leaves with your mower. Mulched leaves add valuable nutrients to your lawn.
They also remind you not to rake your leaves into the street, as it is illegal.
