The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is offering Food Handler Certification, both in-class and online.  Programs are open to anyone, but strongly recommended for chefs, prep cooks, butchers, bakers, supervisors, and managers.

The Food Handler Certification course helps you improve your skills in preparing safe foods. The course will also help you to understand the requirements of the Ontario Food Premises Regulation.

The online course costs $25 and the in-class course is $41.65., and both are designed to prepare you for the Food Handler Certification exam.  There is a small fee of $12.70 to write this exam, and your certification is good for five years.

The Health Unit also offers a Food Safety For All course, which is a non-certification e-learning course that’s open to the public. This course is offered at no cost but is not a certification course, as it doesn’t meet the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care certification requirements. It’s important to understand the basic food safety requirements when food handling, whether it’s handling food for family and friends, for the public at a restaurant, or when volunteering at a church, club, school, or special event. The Food Safety for All course will teach you important food safety basics for safe food handling.

For more information, you can call the health unit at 519-258-2146.
