Windsor Police have arrested an alleged drunk driver who police say evaded officers before telling them he was just heading to get fast food.

Around 1:30am this morning, patrol officers spotted a 2010 GMC Canyon pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed on Hanna Street East approaching Howard Avenue.

Police say the vehicle did not stop for the stop sign at the intersection and “fish-tailed” as it made a hard left turn.

The rear wheel of the vehicle struck the West curb of Howard Avenue, according to police.

Police activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated and turned to continue westbound on Hanna Street East, police said.

The driver eventually stopped his vehicle on Mercer Street and officers approached the driver and asked him what he was doing.

According to police, the driver told officers that he was going to Taco Bell.

Officers placed him under arrest for impaired driving.

A 38 year old Windsor man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusing to provide an adequate breath sample for analysis.
