Thousands of athletes and spectators took in the opening ceremonies.

The Ontario Summer Games kicked off Thursday evening at the University of Windsor’s Alumni Field stadium.

The opening ceremonies welcomed 2,500 athletes, featured The Walkervilles, Danielle Wade, The Greater Windsor Concert Band, Sky Society Aerial Acrobats, The Stilt Guys, Corey Mariuz & Pure Dance Academy, Kenneth Macleoud & Young Fiddlers of Windsor and HNM Dance Co.

Sky Society performers flew high and impressed the crowd.

Ontario Summer Games newspaper guides were available for pickup.

93-year-old Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion, whose city will host the games next, gave an inspiring speech on the importance of making Ontario a great place.

The Walkervilles performed for the crowd.

LaSalle’s Danielle Wade performed O’ Canada.
