A standoff in the 1600 block of Ouellette Avenue has ended.

Police say that around 3am they received a 911 call from a caller who indicated that a male was in her apartment with a knife. The caller indicated that the male was breaking things within the apartment.

Police responded to the apartment and the female was able to exit the apartment however the male would not cooperate with the police.

The suspect barricaded himself and continued to break things inside the apartment while holding a knife. In order to keep the public safe, police set up barricades on Ouellette Avenue and closed the roadway to vehicles and pedestrians between Hanna Street and Tecumseh Road.

Members of the Emergency Services Unit and trained negotiators were both also called to the scene.

After several hours, at approximately 10:30am, police arrested 34-year-old Thomas Corlett and charged him with Break and Enter, Uttering Death Threats, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace, Mischief Over $5000.00, Mischief Under $5000.00, Failing to Comply With Conditions of Judicial Release, and Breach of Probation.
