Windsor Police’s emergency services tactical unit has arrested an assault suspect after a stand off in the 600 block of Pierre.

Windsor Police Sergeant Matthew D’Asti says they received reports earlier this morning of a woman who had been assaulted. The woman was bleeding from the head and was possibly being followed by a male suspect.

D’Asti says the woman was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries and required staples to close a wound in the back of her head.

Sergeant Wren Dosant said the woman indicated that she was assaulted at an address on Pierre.

Police responded to a duplex in the 600 block of Pierre and took precautions to ensure neighbourhood safety and the safety of officers.

Tactical officers used a loudspeaker to make contact with a suspect who was in the home but the man did not apparently exit the residence when he was told he was under arrest. Tactical officers were seen with guns drawn.

Just before 12pm, officers entered the residence and arrested the man. He was brought out and taken away in a prisoner transport wagon.

Police say charges are pending.
