Trustees Approve ‘West Gate Public School’ Name For New Taylor/Benson

A name has been chosen for the school that will be replacing Dr. H.D Taylor Public School and J.E. Benson.

At the Public School Board’s meeting, Tuesday night, trustees choose the name “West Gate Public School” after an ad-hoc committee recommended it.

This was the second attempt at naming the new school building.

On January 21st, the committee came to the board with the proposed name “Roads to Freedom Public School”. Several Trustees on the board felt the name was too close to the name of the new public high school that will open in the fall at the site of the current Century High School to be renamed “Westview Freedom Academy”.

West Gate Public School, currently under construction behind Taylor on Campbell, is set to open in September.
