Essex OPP cracked down on impaired drivers over the Family Day weekend and arrested five people for allegedly driving drunk.

On Thursday, police arrested 44-year-old Cornelius Quiring after locating a vehicle in a ditch on County Road 20 near County Road 41 in Harrow.

On Saturday a red pickup truck travelling eastbound on County Road 22 near Wallace Line was pulled over for driving faster than the posted speed limit. Jean Marc Remillard, 40, was arrested.

Also on Saturday, officers in Tecumseh were called to the McDonald’s restaurant on Manning Road. A white minivan was located in the parking lot and the driver of the vehicle exhibited signs of impairment. Scott Bonnett, 45, was arrested at the scene.

Again on Saturday, officers in Essex received a report of a possibly impaired driver in a Buick. Officers located the vehicle in question and approached the vehicle which then sped off away from the officer. A short while later, the vehicle was located and the driver and sole occupant was arrested. Jerry Hlavac, 39, was arrested.

Lastly on Saturday, officers in Lakeshore received a report of a transport truck that was driving erratically in the eastbound lanes of the 401. Officers located the truck and loaded trailer near Essex County Road 42 in Lakeshore. Sukhdev Singh, 59, was arrested.

The arrested drivers were charged with impaired driving-related offences by OPP officers.

Constable Stephanie Moniz says tips from the public are appreciated as they assist in taking impaired drivers off the road and keeping the public safe.
