A name for the school that will be replacing the current Dr. H.D Taylor Public School and J.E. Benson will be up for discussion at the Public School Board meeting this Tuesday.

An ad-hoc committee that was formed to chose the school’s new name is recommending the school be called “West Gate Public School”.

This is the second attempt at naming the new school building.

On January 21st, the committee came to the board with the proposed name “Roads to Freedom Public School”.  Several Trustees on the board felt the name was too close to the name of the new public high school that will open in the fall at the site of the current Century High School to be renamed “Westview Freedom Academy”.

The committee also recommends that the new school have a prominent acknowledgment of the two former namesakes of the closing school Dr. Taylor and Mr. Benson.

The new school currently under construction behind Taylor school on Campbell is set to open in September.
