A Sudbury man who allegedly left the scene of an accident in Chatham was chased into Essex County, lost and later spotted and arrested by OPP after a struggle.

Chatham Kent OPP were notified late Tuesday of a Volkswagen that failed to stop after being involved in a crash on Highway 401 westbound near Victoria Road.

OPP officers located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401 near the Tilbury service centre. The vehicle stopped on the shoulder momentarily, then proceeded westbound.

Police followed the vehicle into Essex County and attempted to safely stop it by boxing it in.

The vehicle sped off.

Some time later the vehicle was located by OPP officers on Highway 3 in Tecumseh.

The vehicle eventually stopped and after struggling with officers, the driver was arrested.

42-year-old, Daniel Lavoie from Sudbury was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer, flight from police, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and failure to stop for police.
