Chatham-Kent police say that at approximately 2am Sunday morning they were called to an accident at Baldoon Road and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

Upon arrival the officer found a vehicle that had struck a hydro pole, and when speaking with the driver of the vehicle the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

As a result, he was arrested by the officer for impaired driving and was transported to the Chatham Kent Police Service Headquarters where he provided breath samples that were in excess of two times the legal limit.

A 20-year-old Belle River man, was charged with impaired driving and will appear in court at a later date.

There was approximately $,5000 damage as a result of the accident.
