Windsor RCMP have arrested two individuals after an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products.

Officers stopped a vehicle which was found to contain approximately 540 cartons of illegal cigarettes. The vehicle used to transport the illegal cigarettes was also seized.

50-year-old Robert Lacombe and 32-year-old Hasan Ali Muhammad are facing charges under the Excise Act 2001.

“The consequences of dealing in illegal tobacco products are serious. Offenders are liable to substantial fines, confiscation of their property and prison terms of up to five years” stated Insp. Cote of the Windsor RCMP Detachment.

The accused in the matter are scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial court on December 9th, 2013.
