Windsor Police have been in contact with a number of citizens within the East end of Windsor targeted by their postal codes regarding a letter or phone calls they have received.

The letter is from Global Lottery and Winner’s International. The letter indicates that the person has won 2.5 million dollars and a 2013 Mercedes Benz E-Class AMG.

The letter and the offer are fraudulent.

The area code of the phone number associated with the fraud is 876 which is the area code for Jamaica. In the past week the financial crimes branch has received an increasing number of phone calls from residents in the East end of Windsor.

In one circumstance a senior has been defrauded over $90,000. Police say of great concern is the fact that the suspect in the matter attended the residence of the victim to collect the funds. The suspect is described as a male black, in his 40’s or 50’s driving a SUV styled vehicle.

The Global Lottery and Winner’s International fraud has been reported in other communities in both Canada and the United States and has been reported as targeting senior citizens.

The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution in participating in any unsolicited offers. Many persons attempting to commit frauds have used both traditional mailings as well as unsolicited phone calls.

Meeting unknown persons at any time has the potential to create substantial safety issues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4330, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
