OPP continue to investigate after a single vehicle collision east of Leamington closed the road and sent one person to hospital.

Police say the accident happened just after 1am on Essex County Road 34 between Road 21 and Essex County Road 37 near Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area.

The vehicle involved was travelling westbound on Essex County Road 34 when, for reasons police say are still unknown, it left the roadway and struck the Kopegaron Woods sign on the south side of the road.

The lone occupant was taken to Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
