While school has been out for almost summer vacation, work has been going full force at the site of the new school that will replace Dr. H.D Taylor Public School and Benson Public Schools on Campbell Avenue.

Foundation work has been completed and the towering steal structure that will form the shell of the school has been rising from the ground at a steady pace.

The new school building has been designed by Glos Assoicates as will feature 54,190 square feet of learning space on two floors with space for 529 students. The property will also have a bus bay, kiss n’ ride area and 79 parking spaces.

The total cost of the new school is $9,988,077.

Construction is expected by the start of the 2014 school year. Once complete, the old Taylor school will then be demolished around May or June 2014.

There’s no word exactly what will happen with the old Benson building.
