A Windsor man is facing charges after the RCMP seized over 400 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

RCMP officials say that on July 31st, they searched a trunk of a car where they uncovered the illegal cigarettes. They say that the cigarettes were destined to be sold in the Windsor area.

The RCMP Windsor Detachment has charged 33-year-old Isam Jassim under the Excise Act, 2001.

he is scheduled to appear in Chatham Provincial Court on October 29th, 2013.

“The RCMP is resolved to rooting out threats to our communities and the prosecution of those who commit criminal activities,” acknowledged Inspector Serge Côté, Officer in Charge of the Windsor Detachment. “Contraband tobacco is a catalyst for a long list of associated crimes perpetrated by organized crime groups that adversely impact the social fabric of our neighborhoods, families and children.”
