A 23-year-old Windsor man is man is facing charges after an accident early this morning.

Police say that just after 1am they were called to a collision at the intersection of Howard Avenue and Grand Marais.

A witness told police that 2007 Chevrolet Impala was travelling southbound on Howard at a high rate of speed, when the car collided with a raised median demolishing a sign attached to a pole. The sign was found some two hundred feet away from the point of impact.

The driver of the car then made a turn onto Grand Marais Road and stopped near the Royal Marquis Retirement Home.

Police say that it was clear to the officers on the scene that he was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested for impaired driving and taken to police headquarters for a breathalyzer which he failed blowing just over two times the legal limit.

There was no injuries and the car suffered an estimated $10,000 in damages.
