Windsor Police are warning the public to be on high alert after a number of suspects have approached and stolen from elderly citizens.

Police say five incidents have taken place over the past several days.

In all of the cases, the elderly are either alone or with their spouses when approached by the suspects. The suspects approach the victims under the guise of selling them gold or lucky charms.

Police say the suspects are quick and ask for money, or water and are reported to be very touchy feely – hugging and kissing the victims – very overbearing.

They persuade the victims to try on bracelets, necklaces and rings. They remove jewelry from the victims and are able to replace it with fake items. Once the suspects leave, the victims realize that they have been victimized.

Many victims are embarrassed and other family members have had to call police to report the crime. Thefts have ranged in the area of $500.00 to $2500.00

Police say the following five incidents have taken place recently:

  • July 13th – 3300 block of St. Patrick’s (Elderly Couple sitting on front porch)
  • July 19th – 2600 block of Tecumseh Rd West (Elderly male walking to his car in the Canadian Tire parking lot)
  • July 19th – 2500 block of Armstrong Avenue (Elderly couple sitting on front porch)
  • July 20th – Elderly female out for a walk in the 1500 block of North Service Road
  • July 20th – Case reported in Amherstburg

Police say the suspect is described as an Arabic male with olive skin, aged approximately 40-years-old, 185-190 lbs, 5’6″ tall. He has black short hair, is well trimmed with a clean trimmed beard. Police say he’s wearing a light coloured button up short sleeve shirt and grey pants.

This male is with 2 or 3 females who have been described as being White, Pakistani, or Arabic. The female suspects are 40 – 45 years of age.

All suspects speak with an accent described as being Spanish or Arabic.

Victims have reported that the suspect is possibly driving a newer model Ford Fusion, grey in colour. It’s also been reported in Amherstburg that the suspect’s vehicle is a cream coloured Cadillac Escalade.

Police are asking anyone with any information in relation to these incidents to call (519)-255-6700 ex 4830 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers to (519)-258-TIPS (8477)
