Essex County OPP have arrested and charged five individuals in four separate incidents of alcohol related driving over the course of the weekend.

On Thursday, July 18th, officers on patrol observed a black Jeep Cherokee pulling a utility trailer northbound on Dougall Avenue near Cabana in the City of Windsor. The vehicle was swerving back and forth across both lanes and at one point caused the trailer to go up onto the curb.

OPP say the driver of the vehicle, a 40 year old Essex man, exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Exceed 80 mgs of Blood Alcohol Content, and Breach of Probation. Police say alcohol was also located inside the vehicle.

Gerald Klotz will appear in a Windsor court on August 1st.

On Sunday, July 21st at 1:30am, OPP officers in Lakeshore stopped a black Dodge Ram pickup truck on Essex County Road 22 at Essex County Road 19, for travelling 52km/h over the posted speed limit.

OPP say the driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested and charged with Race a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 mgs Blood Alcohol Content.

Stavros Karatzias, age 48 of Windsor, will appear in a Windsor court on August 14th.

Also on Sunday afternoon, OPP officers received a traffic complaint regarding a red GMC Sierra pickup truck which nearly struck a motorcycle in Lakeshore. Officers located the vehicle on Essex County Road 42 at Lesperance Road in Tecumseh and subsequently arrested the 39 year old driver of the vehicle.

Jason Cooper of Lakeshore has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 mgs of Blood Alcohol Content. He will appear in a Windsor court on August 6th.

Yet again on Sunday, at approximately 8:50pm, Lakeshore OPP officers were dispatched to the Deerbrook Marina located at 1023 Essex County Road 2 in Lakeshore, for a report of a boat that was being operated by a group of intoxicated males.

Officers observed a 16 foot Aquarian watercraft approaching with four males on board. Officers instructed the operator to pilot the vessel to the dock. After some difficulty in bringing the watercraft to the dock, a second male on board took the controls and piloted the vessel to the dock.

Both men exhibited signs of impairment once on shore and were arrested.

Scott MacDonald, age 35, of Thamesville has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Vessel and Exceed 80 mgs Blood Alcohol Content as well as Operating a Pleasure Craft without the Prescribed Competency.

Jeremy Koning, age 32, of Lakeshore has been charged with Exceed 80 mgs Blood Alcohol Content and Allow Person to Operate a Pleasure Craft without the Prescribed Competency.

Both men will appear in a Windsor court on August 14th.
